Sleeping with Madagascar

This project transforms the two-dimensional outline of Madagascar on a map into a three-dimensional object large enough for a person to embrace. By remaking the image on the map as a physical form that can actually be hugged, or placed over the body so that its weight can be felt, the map becomes something that can be experienced bodily. This practice begins from an intentionally false hypothesis: that a map is not merely a flat representation, but perhaps the projection of a hidden three-dimensional object. The act of making in this practice is an attempt to perform an “indefinite integral” of the map, dismantling the linear connection between map and reality.
